Raising A Reader® employs a “Train the Trainers” model that helps early childhood professionals engage parents in daily "read-aloud" experiences with their children.
Across the United States, organizations become affiliate members in the Raising A Reader national movement. These affiliates receive early brain development training, curriculum to advance "read-aloud" strategies within their sites and children's homes, and Raising A Reader Book Bag Kits tailored to a variety of demographic settings. The program materials are developed to stimulate Raising A Reader's Five Anchor behaviors, the research-based theory of change. There is a strong library component embodied in the Blue Library Bag, a treasure for every child to keep.
The carefully selected books, durable book bags, teacher and parent “read-aloud” videos, and program curriculum meet a high standard of quality, emotional appeal and ease of use that has produced substantive results demonstrated in 10 independent evaluations. The award-winning "Read Aloud: Share A Book With Me" parent video is available in 14 languages and closed caption for the hearing-impaired, in DVD format. Raising A Reader produced this video for parents to watch with their children. As book characters and toddlers jump from whimsical clouds, this playful video shows parents how to enjoy a picture book with a child, even when they face significant language barriers or cannot read at all. The video is integral to the success of the Raising A Reader program, and is also available for separate purchase. |
